Small Claims Court
The Small Claims Court is a branch of the Superior Court of Justice, and handles nearly half of all civil claims in the province. The Court has civil jurisdiction over monetary claims up to $35,000, and provides an efficient and cost-effective forum for Ontarians to bring or defend these claims.
Landlord Tenant Board
The Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) resolves disputes between residential landlords and tenants and eviction applications filed by non-profit housing co-operatives. The LTB is a Tribunal that provides information about its practices and procedures and the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants under the Residential Tenancies Act.
Provincial Offences
Provincial Courts deal with matters relating to Highway Traffic Act charges such as speeding, Municipal by-law charges which include excessive noise and animal control and charges laid under provincial legislation such as the Environmental Protection Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Dog Owners’ Liability Act and the Trespass to Property Act. We provide advice and represent individuals charged with certain criminal offences, such as assault, causing a disturbance and theft under $5,000.
Notary Public Commissioner of Oaths
A notary public is a person who can act as an official witness to the execution (signing) of contracts, agreements, and a virtually unlimited number of other legal documents. A notary can also attest that documents are exact replicas of the original. A Notary’s formal act is referred to as notarization. A notary can also administer oaths, solemn affirmations, and declarations, which are commonly used in affidavits and statutory declarations.
